A service package is work we take on with the deliverables, the scope and the fee agreed before we start. The proposal states exactly what you get, what is not included, and how long it usually takes.
Which packages come at a fixed fee
Company formation, residence and work permits, and the ongoing legal retainer are fixed-fee packages: the fee is confirmed in writing before work starts, so you know what to plan for from the first step. Monthly accounting is also a fixed-fee service, but it sits on our group platform, cathay.partners, because the platform, not the law firm, delivers it.
Everything else gets a predictable offer
Where no fixed-fee package applies, the scope is specific to the matter, so the fee is too. Tell us about the matter and what you want to achieve. We review it and send a written offer, either a fixed fee or hourly rates with an agreed cap, so the cost is predictable before work starts. If the scope stays the same, so does the fee.
What is included, and what is not
The Kft. formation fee covers every item: the EU VAT number registration, authority fees and out-of-pocket costs. For a branch registration, authority fees are charged separately at cost. Private-individual founders pay no translation, notarisation or apostille costs at all; corporate founders have these charged separately, at a price quoted in advance. What each of the other packages includes is stated on its own page. Fees exclude VAT.
Choosing a package
If you know exactly what you need and it matches a package, you can request it directly on that package's page. If you are unsure, or the matter is more involved, describe it through the contact form and we will point you to the right package or scope a separate offer.
What happens after you send a request
A short description is enough to start. We review it and come back with questions if we have any. We send a written offer that sets out the scope and the fee. If you accept, we sign an engagement letter; Hungarian anti-money-laundering rules require us to identify you and, for a company, its beneficial owners, before we begin. Work then starts.
If none of these packages fits
Not every matter fits a ready-made package. These are the best starting points for anything else.
Questions about the packages
Are the fixed fees net of VAT?
Yes. Fixed fees are net amounts and do not include VAT.
When is the fee fixed, and when do I get a quote?
The fee is fixed for the fixed-fee packages: company formation, residence and work permits, the retainer and, on the platform, monthly accounting. For everything else we review the matter and send a written, individual offer, either a fixed fee or hourly rates with an agreed cap.
Can I combine several packages?
Yes, packages can be ordered on their own or together; company formation, accounting, permits and the retainer are often combined at start-up. Each package is still priced on its own terms.
Who actually does the work?
Our Budapest legal team, with the right lawyer assigned as your main contact. Where a matter touches China, our Shanghai office and the Chinese lawyers licensed for the task carry out the local work; where it touches another country, a member or partner firm from the Cathay Associates network does. We coordinate the work abroad, so you do not have to find an adviser in each country and hold the project together yourself.
In which languages can I work with you?
Hungarian, English, German and Chinese. Documents are usually prepared in Hungarian and English, or, for China-related matters, in Hungarian and Chinese.
How quickly can we start?
Reviewing the request and sending the written offer usually takes a few working days; identification and signing the engagement letter follow. When work itself starts depends on how quickly the required documents come in.
